The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Nishant Walia, a key operative of a cyber fraud syndicate targeting UK and Australian citizens.
Walia, a partner at FirstIdea, was apprehended as part of Operation Chakra V against cyber criminals posing as technical support representatives of renowned multinational companies.
The CBI coordinated with international agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the UK's National Crime Agency, and Microsoft to trace the syndicate's operations and identify its key actors.
The syndicate allegedly defrauded overseas victims by falsely claiming device compromise, extorting payments under the guise of providing technical support, and was found to operate a technologically advanced call center in India.
