India's edible oil imports declined by 8.78% in the first eight months of the current oil year, according to data from the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA).
India imported 92.08 lakh tonnes of edible oil from November to June in the oil year 2024-25, compared to 100.95 lt in the same period of the previous year.
Imports of palm oil and sunflower oil decreased, while soyabean oil imports increased during the first eight months of the oil year 2024-25.
The SEA has urged the Indian government to release a substantial quantity of soyabean and rapeseed stocks into the market to stabilize prices, especially with the upcoming harvest season approaching.
