The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has issued guidelines for installing automatic weather stations at solar and wind power plants to improve generation predictability and grid reliability.
CEA highlighted the importance of accurate weather forecasts as errors can lead to financial penalties under the Deviation Settlement Mechanism.
The guidelines specify the installation of one automatic weather station for every 50 MW and above renewable energy plant to optimize generation and ensure regulatory compliance.
The weather stations must measure parameters like wind speed and rainfall, and be located strategically to reflect the actual on-site conditions for both solar and wind power projects.
