A Ro-Ro ferry service will be launched on July 14 in Goa's Mandovi River, reducing travel time from the island to the mainland to just 12 minutes, compared to 30 minutes by conventional ferry boats.
The Ro-Ro ferries allow passengers to drive in from one side and drive out from another, making travel more convenient and efficient for islanders who rely on river transport in the absence of a bridge.
The ferries, named Gangotri and Dwarka, built by Vijai Marines Shipyards, can carry up to 40 two-wheelers and 15 cars, with safety features like life jackets, air conditioned compartments, and emergency manoeuvring capabilities.
The service will be operated on a Built-Own-Operate-Transfer basis, with free rides for passengers and two-wheelers, while cars will be charged ₹15 each for the new Ro-Ro ferry service in Goa.
