Russia plans to import 1 million skilled workers from India by the end of the year to address the industrial labor shortage. This initiative includes the Sverdlovsk region and the opening of a new Consulate General in Yekaterinburg.
The migration of Indian workers aims to fill the shortage of highly qualified workforce in the Sverdlovsk region, known for its heavy industry and military-industrial complex, which faces a lack of skilled workers to meet production demands.
Besedin mentioned that apart from India, Russia is also considering inviting laborers from Sri Lanka and North Korea to address the workforce deficit, as the country anticipates a shortage of 3.1 million workers by 2030.
The Russian Ministry of Labour proposed increasing the quota for inviting qualified foreign workers in 2025 by 1.5 times to accommodate the industrial demands and address the looming workforce shortage.
