Tax refunds under direct taxes and GST have seen a steady rise in the April-June quarter, impacting net collection growth.
Gross tax collection between April 1 and July 10 increased by just over 3%, reaching over ₹6.65 lakh crore, with refunds rising over 38% to around ₹1.02 lakh crore.
The rise in high refunds is attributed to lower profits and higher TDS deductions in corporate tax, while personal tax refunds are mainly due to regime-switching while filing ITRs.
Gross GST collection in April-June surpassed ₹6.22 lakh crore, showing a growth of 11.8%, with refunds also increasing by nearly 20% to around ₹80,000 crore.
