Water levels in major Mumbai lakes have risen to 71%, with Modak Sagar and Middle Vaitarna lakes nearly full as per BMC data.
The seven water-supplying lakes in Mumbai can hold 14,47,363 million litres of water, with their combined capacity currently at nearly 10,30,218 million litres.
Amid heavy monsoon rains, the Middle Vaitarna lake has reached 93.47% capacity, witnessing a significant rise in water levels, leading to the opening of dam gates to store water in Modak Sagar.
With most lakes above 60% capacity, except Vehar and Tulsi, which are below, the IMD predicts moderate to very heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Goa, and the Konkan region, potentially causing further water level rises.
