Google has recruited Varun Mohan, the CEO of AI infrastructure startup Windsurf, to strengthen its AI capabilities.
Mohan, along with his team members, is joining Google after a corporate struggle involving OpenAI.
Mohan, an Indian with roots in California, founded Windsurf in 2021 and has a background in computer science and AI development.
Google will pay $2.4 billion in licensing fees to access Windsurf technologies, with Mohan and his team focusing on Google DeepMind's agentic coding efforts.
