Windows Recall gets an export feature to let non-Microsoft websites and apps use your Copilot PC's snapshots

  • Microsoft's Windows Recall feature, which captures screenshots and stores them locally, now has an export function for sharing data with third-party apps.
  • The Recall Export feature is currently only available to users in the European Economic Area (EEA), including EU countries and Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.
  • The export function allows for more data privacy control but comes with limitations such as a single encryption key that, if lost, requires the database to be wiped and restarted.
  • Recall's database is now stored for 90 days on a Copilot+ PC, unlike before when it was kept indefinitely by default.
  • Microsoft states that these changes are in line with legal compliance and regulations.
  • The export function is a positive development for Recall users, providing more flexibility and control over their data.
