Meta introduces Codec Avatars, life-like photorealistic avatars that can be created using a smartphone's front-facing depth sensor.
The Codex Avatars can depict more subtleties in facial expressions, adding more life to them. Codec Avatars introduced by Meta in 2019 jump years ahead in avatar technology, now usable with just a smartphone camera.
The scanning process takes about three to three and a half minutes, and users will have to wait for another six hours for the avatar to be processed.
While the product will be made available to the public soon, it will probably not use the GPU on the user's device but rather use the cloud GPU for the process.
