The largest health care company in the world, UnitedHealth Group, has suffered the worst health care data breach in history, affecting 100 million people.
The breach occurred in February 2024 through a ransomware attack on Change Healthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
The cybercriminals exploited a lack of multi-factor authentication on login credentials.
The hack resulted in disruptions to pharmacies, unfilled prescriptions, delayed payments to doctors and hospitals, and insurance companies unable to reimburse medical providers.
