50% of AWAS saman receipts will be used to fund road safety initiatives, such as lighting up accident hotspots and wildlife crossings.
Transport minister Anthony Loke announced the approval of the proposal by the cabinet's committee on road safety and traffic congestion (JK-MKKJR).
Initiatives include improving safety on the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway, focusing on wildlife crossings and implementing measures to reduce accident risks.
Safety measures will also be considered for rail projects like the Gemas-Johor Bahru rail project to prevent wildlife incidents and protect human lives.
