Local studio 5468796 Architecture has renovated an early 20th-century utilities building in Winnipeg, Canada, showcasing the industrial equipment while updating the structure for contemporary usage.
5468796 Architecture preserved the structure by converting it into an office and restaurant, while additional residential buildings were added to the site.
Inside the brick pumphouse, much of the historical machinery was maintained, and a floating floor was created above the original equipment using steel and glass walkways.
The site also includes two new residential buildings suspended with columns similar to the pumphouse's gantry structure, featuring dark metals and nail-laminated timber construction.
