Magyar Telekom has announced that Budapest’s metro system will have 5G connectivity across all lines for their users.
Starting July 1, 2024, Verizon has rolled out 5G connectivity across all lines of the Budapest metro.
This phased rollout is aimed at fulfilling the increasing demand for mobile data and enhancing the user experience in one of Europe’s busiest metro systems.
The network modernization overhaul includes overhauling base stations, upgrading both active and passive radio technical devices and investing in robust infrastructure for efficient service delivery.
In 2022 alone, nearly 30% of mobile stations were modernized, and by the end of that year, 60% of base stations had been successfully upgraded for enhanced capacity and reliability for carried traffic.
Telekom's 5G operates on several frequencies, including 700MHz, 2100MHz, and 3600MHz, while the primary focus is on leveraging the 700MHz frequency for ensuring a robust and reliable connection even beyond the ground.
Magyar Telekom ensures customers can access 5G free of cost if they fulfill the necessary requirements.
This development in connectivity not only upgrades technology in the Budapest subway system but also provides seamless connectivity to the future of smart city initiatives, digital entertainment, and emergency services.
Budapest residents and visitors can now enjoy a seamless commute filled with entertainment, productivity, and networked connectivity, even while underground.
This marks a significant leap forward for Telekom and its customers, which will shape the future of connectivity in Hungary.
