Rishita Samantaray is a 14-year-old student from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, who has created a biometric system using AI-enabled facial recognition.
The system is designed to be installed at government bus depots and stops to identify pregnant women, elderly passengers, and people with disabilities.
The government-backed biometric system sends real-time alerts to bus drivers and conductors ensuring priority seating and enhanced care throughout the journey.
Rishita’s aim is to make public transportation safer for vulnerable passengers like pregnant women and people with disabilities.
Her innovative system identifies the passengers on the bus using AI facial recognition features and real-time alerts are sent to the drivers and conductors to take appropriate measures.
Rishita has been awarded the Doctor APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Mind Innovation & Creativity Award for her scientific innovation that has great potential to minimize miscarriages in women and injuries in people with disabilities.
Rishita has performed on the main stage of Patha Utsav and is an accomplished Rubik's cube solver and is the youngest Grandmaster in Odisha.
Additionally, she is a published author and is on the merit list of the ISRO project-making competition.
The estimated cost of the system is Rs 4,000 and can come down to Rs 2,000 if mass-manufactured.
Rishita represented Odisha for the Nationals for INSPIRE MANAK in New Delhi.
