Former Meta executive Nick Clegg warns that requiring tech firms to ask artists for permission to train models on their work would kill the AI industry in the UK.
Clegg believes it would be implausible for companies to seek permission from artists before training models, considering the vast amounts of data needed.
He mentioned that the UK government introduced the Data (Use and Access) Bill allowing AI training on creative works unless copyright holders opt out.
Singer Elton John criticized the bill, calling it 'criminal' and expressing readiness to take legal action against tech companies engaging in 'theft' of copyrighted material.
