Nebraska's governor, Jim Pillen, signed a package of bills aimed at making social media less addictive for kids.
The Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act, or LB504, will require social media companies to offer time limits, restrict certain content categories, and provide chronological feeds for young users.
The law also limits personal data collection, prohibits ads related to gambling, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs targeting kids, and introduces penalties for AI-generated pornography.
These measures are set to go into effect on January 1, 2026, with civil penalties for violations, as other states like Texas also consider similar restrictions on social media use by minors.
