A United Nations research institute, connected to the United Nations, created two AI-powered avatars to teach people about refugee issues.
The avatars created were Amina, a fictional woman who fled Sudan and lives in a refugee camp in Chad, and Abdalla, a fictional soldier from a paramilitary force in Sudan.
The experiment's website allows users to interact with the avatars; however, there were reported issues accessing the site.
While the avatars could potentially be used to appeal to donors, some workshop attendees reacted negatively, stating that refugees can speak for themselves.
