Cognition AI Inc., a startup with an artificial intelligence coding assistant, has acquired rival Windsurf, but the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Windsurf, previously known as Exafunction Inc., had rejected a $3 billion takeover bid from OpenAI and signed a $2.3 billion technology licensing deal with Google.
Cognition's coding assistant, Devin, competes with Windsurf's AI capabilities. The acquisition follows Cognition's significant funding increase and raised valuation to $4 billion.
The integration of Windsurf's features and IP into Cognition's products is planned, with Windsurf team operating independently in the short term.
