As of May 2025, while there have been some improvements in the usefulness of AI-powered design tools, they are still far from meeting the expectations set for them. Design professionals are not at risk of being replaced by AI yet.
The most significant advancements in design-specific AI tools are found in narrow-scope genAI, which specialize in one or a few specific tasks, unlike broad AIs such as ChatGPT which handle a wide range of inputs and outputs.
