Artificial intelligence companies are 'scraping the value' from the UK's £125bn creative industries, according to Channel 4 chief executive Alex Mahon.
Mahon expressed concern that the government's proposed plan to grant AI companies access to creative works, unless copyright holders opt out, would be detrimental to the UK's creative industries.
She emphasized the need for clear terms and proper licensing, as the current practice of scraping data without payment poses a significant threat to the industry that contributes 6% of the UK's gross value added (GVA).
Mahon also highlighted the importance of extending regulations on programming prominence for public service broadcasters on new platforms to ensure their survival and reach.
