The founder of an AI-infused universal shopping app, Albert Saniger, has been charged with defrauding investors who funded the app.
Saniger marketed the app as using AI to autonomously navigate the checkout process, but it was actually powered by a call center in the Philippines.
Nate app claimed to simplify the e-commerce process by allowing customers to skip checkout on retail websites and complete their purchase with a single tap.
The app relied on human workers to manually process transactions to create the illusion of technological automation.
