Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) implemented a new policy where employees must ensure project assignments and cannot remain on the bench for more than 35 days in a year, shifting deployment responsibility to employees.
All India IT Employee Union (AIITEU) criticized TCS' bench time cap and billability policy, stating that employees may face termination if they fail to meet billability targets, considering it unfair for the employer to delegate work assignment to employees.
The union views the revised associate-deployment policy at TCS as a move against workers, possibly intended to reduce workforce.
TCS employees are required to upskill during bench time, undergo at least four hours of training via iEvolve, and attend trainings organized by the talent-development team for faster project deployment.
The onus now falls on employees to secure projects, leading to concerns about job security and work allocation fairness.
