An Amazon employee who had been working remotely resigned, forfeiting $203,000 (Rs 1.6 crore approx) in unvested stock, due to a requirement to return to the office three days a week, which they felt was a betrayal of the company's promise to allow remote work.
The employee had tried to negotiate with Amazon to continue working remotely and inquired about a relocation package, but was unable to get a satisfactory response.
Amazon defended its return-to-office policy, stating that it was in the best long-term interest of customers, business, and culture. The company acknowledged varying timelines and relocation support for those affected.
