Amazon India is reported to have acquired OTT platform MX Player from Times Internet Ltd (TIL) for a much lower price than the 2018 acquisition cost of INR1,000 crore ($134m).
The deal is expected to add around 78 million users to Amazon Prime Video's current 28 million, potentially making it four times larger in terms of consumer acquisition.
Amazon Prime Video has not commented on the rumours or speculation, but it is expected that the final payments of the deal should be completed by 30 June.
The acquisition is likely to intensify India's OTT war, especially as the sector faces growth challenges with new players entering the game.
