Amazon is issuing refunds to customers for some really old returns that were unresolved, dating back to as far as 2018.
The company identified a small subset of returns that were not resolved due to the inability to verify the correct item was sent back, leading to customer refunds now.
During its recent earnings call, Amazon hinted at refunds, and CFO Brian Olsavsky confirmed a one-time charge of $1.1 billion, including costs related to historical customer returns.
Amazon customers have reported receiving belated refunds, with some getting money for products they never returned, prompting a potential class action lawsuit against the company.
