​​Amazon jumps on nuclear power bandwagon by investing in X-Energy and promising small reactors

  • Amazon has joined Microsoft and Google in supporting nuclear power by investing in startup X-Energy and signing two development agreements.
  • The investment and agreements aim to add around 300 megawatts of nuclear capacity in the Pacific Northwest and Virginia.
  • The development agreements involve the construction of small modular reactors (SMR) which are faster and cheaper to build.
  • X-Energy, specializing in high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, will receive funding from Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund to develop their Xe-100 reactor.
