Amazon has launched its Project Kuiper to compete with Elon Musk's Starlink and Eutelsat's OneWeb by deploying the first batch of internet satellites into space.
The Project Kuiper mission aims to provide fast and reliable internet to underserved communities globally using a constellation of over 3,200 low Earth orbit satellites.
The inaugural launch used a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket to deliver the first 27 Project Kuiper satellites to an altitude of 280 miles above Earth, out of a planned total of 3,236 satellites.
Amazon has upgraded the satellites for this mission to improve performance and make them less visible to ground-based astronomers, with plans to start delivering internet services to customers later this year.
