Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) announced it will lay off 4% of its staff, about 1,000 jobs, to focus on the market for artificial intelligence (AI) processors.
AMD aims to strengthen its position in the AI processor market, which is currently dominated by rival Nvidia Corp.
The company's most advanced GPU, the Instinct-branded MI300X accelerator, provides an alternative to Nvidia's GPUs for data center operators.
AMD's job cuts align resources with its growth opportunities and its commitment to supporting impacted employees through the transition.
