Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) expects to incur charges of up to $800 million for exporting its MI308 products to China and other countries, following the US tightening chip export controls.
The export control requires a special license for selling certain semiconductor products in China, and AMD plans to apply for licenses, but there is no guarantee of approval.
This move comes after Nvidia also warned of $5.5 billion charges due to limitations on exporting its H20 AI chip to China.
Chinese companies are increasingly seeking alternatives to Western chip firms like Nvidia, with AMD being one of the companies that builds hardware for AI applications.
