Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan paid for the Blue subscription on Twitter to retain his Blue badge on his profile.
However, Twitter began giving out free Blue Ticks to users with over one million followers, including many high-profile Indian celebrities.
Bachchan feels that his money went to waste as he already had a massive following on the platform. "Khel khatam, paise hazam (game over, money gone)," he wrote on Twitter.
Many Twitter users, including authors and celebrities, are divided on the issue of paid and free Blue Ticks and are calling for donations to charities instead of paying for subscriptions.
