A cargo ship carrying 3,000 cars, including around 750 electric or hybrid vehicles, was abandoned in the Pacific Ocean after a massive fire broke out.
Despite efforts by the crew, the fire on the ship named Morning Midas continued to burn, located approximately 304 miles south of Adak, Alaska.
The intensity of the fire led to the crew's decision to abandon the ship in lifeboats, and all 22 sailors were rescued by a nearby merchant vessel.
EV battery fires are difficult to extinguish due to thermal runaway, with large lithium-ion batteries igniting hotter fires that can reignite after being put out.
