  • Robert Taylor was the director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (ARPA) Information Processing Techniques Office.
  • Teletype terminals were used to access computers, and each one connected to a different mainframe computer with different procedures to log in.
  • ARPA funded multiple research projects but lacked a network to connect all the computers, which led to the creation of the Internet.
