A Wired investigation found that Google Maps can be near impossible to use in the West Bank, especially since the start of the war.
Users have reported that the app directs them into walls, fails to account for time-consuming checkpoints, or steers them onto restricted roads leading to Israeli settlements, posing a risk to Palestinian users.
Google does not distinguish between Israeli and Palestinian roads, which makes it difficult to accurately navigate in the West Bank. However, the company claims to be constantly working on improving its services in the region.
Many people in the West Bank have reportedly stopped using Google Maps due to its inadequacies, and employees have urged Google to enhance the map services for Palestinians.
