Microsoft has released the first Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27744 to the Canary channel.
The update introduces a new processor feature support in Prism, the emulator for Windows on ARM, which makes it possible for 64-bit x86 applications to run under emulation by adding support for more CPU features under emulation.
The virtual CPU used by x64 emulated apps through Prism will now have support for additional extensions to the x86 instruction set architecture that are not mandatory but have become commonplace for some applications.
In addition to new processor feature support in Prism, Build 27744 brings changes and improvements to the start menu, input including a new gamepad keyboard layout for the on-screen Windows 11 keyboard, task manager, and settings, along with several fixes.
However, Microsoft says it is not planning to release SDKs for the 27xxx series builds at the moment.
As this is an early preview of Prism, Microsoft welcomes feedback from Insiders to ensure that the updated Prism provides a great experience for all users.
The company is also working on a fix for an issue where the desktop background may not show correctly sometimes with multiple monitors and investigating reports that some applicable insiders are experiencing rollbacks.
Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27744 is only available to the Canary channel, therefore these features may change over time and never get released beyond Windows Insiders.
Finally, Microsoft has confirmed that to get off the Canary channel, a fresh install of Windows 11 will be required.
Remember that to improve Agent's performance, Windows Server 2012+ or a modern version of Linux are recommended operating system versions.
