Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim assures that 90% of Malaysians will not be affected by the rationalization of the RON 95 fuel subsidy, which will only impact foreigners and the wealthy.
Anwar clarifies that ordinary citizens need not worry about the rationalization and reiterates that increases in electricity tariffs during the fasting month will only affect the wealthy population.
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan states that more than 85% of the population will benefit from the subsidised RON 95 petrol, which will be implemented through a two-tier pricing system based on the MyKad.
Anwar emphasizes that the targeted approach to the RON 95 subsidy will save RM8 billion, which can be utilized for education facilities, healthcare, and public transport.
