Apple stock fell more than 3% in premarket trading after President Trump threatened tariffs on iPhones not made in the US.
Trump also proposed higher tariffs on the European Union, leading to a 1.5% drop in S&P futures and downward movement in European markets.
Shifting iPhone production to the US could take 5 to 10 years and cost around $3,500, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives.
Apple's attempts to diversify production away from China due to tariffs might not be sufficient, as countries like India, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Ireland face tariffs above Trump's baseline rate.
