Apple has established a new data-processing venture in Shanghai, focusing on software development, big data services, storage, and data processing.
The venture, named Apple Technology Development (Shanghai), is registered with US$35 million in capital and is wholly owned by Apple South Asia.
Apple's move comes as it faces increased competition in China's smartphone market and awaits regulatory approval for its Apple Intelligence suite for iPhones in mainland China.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has made multiple visits to China to discuss topics including data security and cloud services.
