iOS 26 brings new features to CarPlay such as Liquid Glass design, Live Activities, widgets, Tapbacks in Messages, and more.
Apple announced another change coming to CarPlay with iOS 26 in a WWDC 2025 video for developers.
Users will be able to use multi-touch gestures in supported vehicles to interact with mapping apps on CarPlay, like zooming and panning on the map.
CarPlay now supports multitouch interactions for navigation apps in vehicles that support CarPlay Ultra.
A new small improvement in iOS 18.4 and later is the sports mode for audio apps on CarPlay, displaying a scoreboard for live sports events along with the audio controls.
The Now Playing view on CarPlay can now show team logos, scores, game clock, and more for audio apps streaming live sports events.
iOS 18.4 was released in late March, and iOS 26 is currently available in developer beta, set for release to all users later this year.
CarPlay will also gain the ability to play videos from an iPhone via AirPlay in supported vehicles.
