Apple's subsidiaries in France and Belgium have had criminal complaints filed against them by the Democratic Republic of Congo, alleging their involvement in using conflict minerals in the product supply chain.
Congo claims that Apple has been using minerals obtained through armed conflicts in the region, accusing the subsidiaries of covering up war crimes and engaging in deceptive commercial practices.
Apple states that it does not directly source primary minerals and conducts regular supplier audits to ensure compliance.
The complaints focus on Apple's use of the ITSCI monitoring scheme, which has been suspended by the Responsible Minerals Initiative.
