A recent meta-analysis by researchers at the University of Mississippi found that while the Apple Watch provides accurate heart rate and step count measurements, its calorie burn estimates can be significantly inaccurate.
The study evaluated 56 research studies and reported low errors in heart rate and step count measurements but a high error margin of 27.96% in calorie estimation.
Although Apple Watches are good for tracking habits, users are advised not to solely rely on the calorie data provided by the device, as it may not be entirely accurate.
The researchers highlighted the need for improvements in wearable technology to enhance accuracy and utility for both consumers and smartwatch manufacturers.
