Archaeologists in Gdansk, Poland, have unearthed a large skeleton of a medieval knight under an old ice cream parlor site.
The knight is believed to be part of the Teutonic Order, a German religious order of crusaders who operated in eastern Europe in the 1000s.
The discovery includes a limestone tombstone with the image of a knight in chainmail, holding a shield and sword, along with preserved fragments of clothing and bones.
The skeleton, estimated to be about 5 foot 10 inches tall, was found at the intersection of Sukiennicza and Grodzka Streets in Gdansk, where excavations also revealed remains of a wooden church from the 12th century.
