The ARM Institute announced a call for projects to support American manufacturing and the U.S. Department of Defense, planning to award about $3 million for multiple projects.
The institute aims to empower U.S. workers, create new jobs, lower barriers to adopting robotics, and assert U.S. leadership in advanced robotics for manufacturing.
They aid in job creation by increasing productivity through collaborative robotics, promoting domestic manufacturers, and replacing dangerous jobs with safer alternatives.
The ARM Institute continued its cooperative agreement with the Defense Department's Manufacturing Technology Program, receiving $35.4 million to support U.S. manufacturing through automation and workforce development until 2028.
In a previous round, the ARM Institute selected six technology projects for funding, totaling approximately $6.1 million across these projects.
Their latest project call includes special topic areas (STAs) focusing on multi-modal inputs for AI robotics, rapid re-tasking and robot agility, multi-robot, multi-human collaboration, and adaptive real-time path planning and control.
The call emphasizes recent advances in artificial intelligence for improved robotic perception and the importance of multimodal sensing in robotics applications.
Regarding rapid re-tasking and robot agility, the ARM Institute highlights the need for automation to be more flexible and adaptable to various manufacturing tasks.
The concept papers submission deadline for the project call is on April 9, with subsequent phases for presentations and final selections following.
Interested parties can visit the ARM Institute website or attend the project call webinar on March 13 for more information on submissions and deadlines.
