A 25-year-old Alabama man has been charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft following the January 9th hack of the SEC’s Twitter account.
The hack resulted in a fake tweet approving spot Bitcoin ETFs, leading to a significant increase in Bitcoin's price.
The man behind the hack, Eric Council Jr., was arrested by the FBI after months of investigation.
Council used a SIM swapping scheme to gain access to the SEC's Twitter account.
