A chartered spaceflight for India, Poland, and Hungary’s first astronauts in decades has been delayed due to leak concerns at the International Space Station (ISS).
The Axiom Mission 4 to the ISS has been postponed by NASA to monitor cabin pressure on the Russian side of the station for safety reasons.
NASA confirmed that the seven astronauts currently on the ISS are safe, and other operations will not be affected by the delay.
The Russian space agency Roscosmos repaired a leak on the Russian segment of the ISS; however, a new launch date for the mission has not been set.
SpaceX's planned launch of four private astronauts to the ISS was delayed due to bad weather and technical issues, further complicating the situation.
The private mission delay offers NASA and the Russian Space Agency time to evaluate the situation and consider additional repairs if needed.
The chartered flight was organized by Axiom Space, with the astronauts, including Peggy Whitson, remaining in quarantine in Florida.
Shubhanshu Shukla from India and others from Hungary and Poland are among the astronauts scheduled for the Axiom mission.
NASA aims to keep the ISS operational until 2030 and replace it with privately owned stations like those proposed by Axiom Space.
