Amazon Web Services introduces an 'agentic IDE' called Kiro to address the drawbacks of vibe coding, which can lead to low-quality code and increased debugging time.
Kiro utilizes generative AI to interact with developers through a conversational interface, generating specs in the form of markdown or text based on user stories and EARS notation.
The tool provides lists of services, actual code pushed to Git, and supports collaboration on multiple specs from different project teams, aiming to deliver production-ready code and facilitate project maintenance.
Kiro offers event-driven automations known as 'hooks' for code review and optimization, integrates with Code OSS editor and supports plugins for VS Code and Open VSX. AWS plans to charge $19.99 per month for the service when released, combining agentic IDE with coding assistants and promoting experimentation in development practices.
