BAFTA has named Shenmue as the most influential video game of all time. It beat Grand Theft Auto, Tetris, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, DOOM, and Half-Life 2 to the accolade.
DOOM secured second place, followed by Super Mario Bros., Half-Life, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the top five.
Shenmue was released in 1999 and was the most expensive video game at that time. It follows the story of Ryo Hazuki seeking revenge for his father's murder.
Yu Suzuki, the developer of Shenmue, expressed gratitude and honored that the game has been recognized as the most influential video game of all time.
