Intel has initiated layoffs in California as part of a restructuring plan under CEO Lip-Bu Tan, targeting a 15% to 20% reduction in the workforce.
The layoffs include chip design engineers and architects with a focus on eliminating excessive management layers. The company is also closing its automotive chip division.
Job categories being cut include physical design engineers, engineering managers, logic and product development engineers, cloud software architects, and various management positions.
The layoffs are set to start on July 15, with impacted employees receiving either 60-day or four-week notices along with nine weeks of compensation and benefits.
