US-based investment giant Blackstone is set to invest £10 billion to build one of Europe’s largest artificial intelligence data centres in the north east of England.
The government anticipates the data centre will create over 4,000 jobs, including 1,200 roles dedicated to construction in Blyth, Northumberland.
The site at Blyth was originally intended for the Britishvolt battery plant but was sold for redevelopment as a data centre after the company filed for bankruptcy.
Blackstone will also invest £110 million into a fund for skills training and transport infrastructure in the area.
