Boonserm Premthada upcycles Thai rice barns to address elephant food scarcity, presented at the 24th International Exhibition of Triennale Milano.
The Elephant Food House project combines architecture, ecology, and local craft by repurposing rice barns into food shelters for elephants using handwoven bamboo winnowing baskets.
Addressing the issue of declining elephant food sources due to deforestation and climate change, the project promotes interdependence between elephants and humans while fostering empathy and balance in the ecosystem.
The shelters not only supplement elephant diets but also serve as resting points for both humans and elephants, mediating coexistence between species and highlighting architecture's role in supporting shared resources.
